Cleaning and Prevention

A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is continued in the dental office by the efforts of your dentist and dental hygienist to promote, restore, and maintain your oral health. Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth. Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, beautiful smile.

We are all exposed to natural radiation in our environment. The amount of radiation exposure from a full mouth series of x-rays is equal to the amount a person receives in a single day from natural sources.

Crowns, Bridges, and Veneers

A crown is a restoration that fits over the remaining part of you tooth making it resilient and giving it the look of a real tooth. Crowns can be used to restore teeth that have been broken or that have been weakened by decay. A crown may also be the ideal solution if you have a discoloured filling and you would like to improve the appearance of the tooth; or if you have had a root filling you may need a crown to protect what is left of the tooth.

At Isa Smiles we have a number of different crown options available from an all-ceramic or all-porcelain crown to metal and porcelain fused to metal crowns. The option used will be discussed at your private consultation and will depend on what is best for your teeth and your budget.

A dental extraction (also referred to as tooth extraction, exodontia, exodontics, or informally, tooth pulling) is the removal of teeth from the dental alveolus (socket) in the alveolar bone. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, but most commonly to remove teeth which have become unrestorable through tooth decay, periodontal disease or dental trauma, especially when they are associated with toothache. Sometimes wisdom teeth are impacted (stuck and unable to grow normally into the mouth) and may cause recurrent infections of the gum (pericoronitis). In orthodentics if the teeth are crowded, sound teeth may be extracted (often bicuspids) to create space so the rest of the teeth can be straightened.

Tooth extraction is usually relatively straightforward, and the vast majority can be usually performed quickly while the individual is awake by using local anesthetic injections to eliminate painful sensations.

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When a dentist gives you a filling, he or she first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned out cavity with a filling material.

By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay. Materials used for fillings include gold, porcelain, a composite resin (tooth-colored fillings), and an amalgam (an alloy of mercury, silver, copper, tin and sometimes zinc).

No one type of filling is best for everyone. What’s right for you will be determined by the extent of the repair, whether you have allergies to certain materials, where in your mouth the filling is needed, and the cost.

Orthodontics is a discipline of dentistry that focuses on alignment of the teeth and jaws to improve a person’s smile and oral health. Crooked teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean and are at risk for tooth decay and gum disease.

An extremely popular cosmetic treatment, Zoom™ teeth whitening is a solution for patients who are wanting to reduce staining or discoloration. Whether you have a special occasion or simply want to brighten your pearly whites, Isa Smiles will help you achieve your most dazzling smile in a safe, healthy way.

Whitening treatments help restore your teeth’s former brightness, or can reduce stains that you’ve had all your life. There are numerous ways to provide this treatment. One popular method is by in-chair whitening, administered by a dental professional. Another is a take-home kit.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

You might currently be experiencing discomfort or dental problems because of your wisdom teeth, or you might not even know if your wisdom teeth could cause any trouble in the future. Regardless of the situation, Isa Smiles can help. We have an experienced team that can make the extraction process as simple as possible.

A tooth that fails to emerge fully is known as an impacted tooth. This partial eruption of the wisdom tooth may be caused by insufficient space in the jaw for the tooth or its improper angulation. The impaction can either be partial or total. A totally impacted tooth refers to one that fails to break through the gums at all.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are used to replace the original tooth root in the mouth where the teeth are missing. Basically, they act as replacement for natural teeth roots.

The placement of dental implants – typically following a tooth extraction – also helps to preserve the strength and health of the bone into which they are inserted. This is because the bone and implants form a strong and long lasting bond through a process known as osseointegration. When the root-like dental implants have fused with the bone, they provide a stable anchor upon which the artificial teeth can be mounted.

When it comes to dental implants, the dentist’s experience is not something you can substitute with cheaper pricing or a more convenient location.

Children’s dentistry is one of the pillars in the philosophy of Isa Smiles.
